Who Will Prevail: Rice Or McCoy?

Two of the top running backs in fantasy football for cash square off in Philadelphia as the Ravens visit the Eagles. Baltimore’s Ray Rice only carried the ball 10 times for 68 yards in the opener but bailed his fantasy football for cash owners out with two touchdowns. McCoy on the other hand carried the ball 20 times for 110 yards, but had a fumble and failed to find the end zone. How will each fare against the other’s stacked defense?

For Rice, the better Joe Flacco plays, the better Rice’s fantasy football numbers will be. Flacco was great on Monday against the Bengals, but the Eagles secondary is much tighter, and the Eagles have a very effective front four pass rush. Torrey Smith and Anquan Boldin may not be ideal starts in fantasy football for cash this week, but Rice has a way of finding his numbers one way or another. Also, the Eagles are still a much better defense against the pass than they are against the run. It will be interesting to see how it all works out on Sunday for him.

McCoy on the other hand will not be able to satisfy fantasy owners without getting a touchdown. McCoy had 20 last year and those were his biggest fantasy assets. The biggest impediment to McCoy finding the end zone will likely be his quarterback, Michael Vick. If Vick plays anywhere near as bad as he did against the Browns, when he threw four interceptions, the Eagles will be out of this game by halftime, and McCoy will become a non-factor. Something big to watch is whether or not Jeremy Maclin plays, as he’s currently questionable with a hip flexor.
On any given week, either of these defenses would make for good fantasy plays. But there’s simply too much offensive potential for either to be effective this week.

As great as both of these running backs are, the difference in the game might just be the play of Michael Vick and Joe Flacco. In Week 1, Flacco looked like a new quarterback, while Vick looked more like a backup. If that same type of play happens in Week 2, we could see a fairly easy win for the Baltimore Ravens. The Dream Team could already drop to a disappointing 1-1 on the young year.

Prediction: Baltimore 27, Philadelphia 17
Top Fantasy Scorers: Rice 21, McCoy 19
